Industrial design that blends Ayurveda, ergonomics, and everyday usability
At Design Katte, we love rethinking everyday products — especially the ones people never expect to change. When Pankajakasthuri, a respected Ayurvedic brand, approached us to design a new soap cake, we saw more than just a block of soap. We saw an opportunity to improve daily life, one thoughtful shape at a time.
Beyond Aesthetics
Most soap bars in India are designed with looks in mind — smooth curves, bold branding, flashy shapes. But very few address real usability issues.
- What happens when the soap keeps slipping out of your hand in the shower?
- Why does the bottom always get soggy and melt when left on a soap stand?
- Can we reduce waste and improve grip at the same time?
We tackled these small but real frustrations with a fresh design approach.
Our Design Approach
This project was a complete industrial design and engineering task, handled end-to-end by our team. We started by studying user behavior, grip patterns, and water flow around soap stands.
We shaped the soap to offer a better hold — comfortable in the hand, with a surface that guides grip and reduces slips. We also redesigned the base of the soap to minimize contact with flat surfaces, allowing water to drain away and preventing the soap from melting into mush.
Weight and volume were also optimized to balance cost, usage duration, and packaging constraints.
Made for Manufacturing
Design is only half the story. We also worked closely with the manufacturer, translating design into reality. From CAD drawings to prototyping to final approval, we ensured the design stayed true to its vision while being feasible for production.
Modern Meets Ayurvedic
Pankajakasthuri is a deeply rooted Ayurvedic brand, and we made sure the soap’s look and feel reflected that. But we also added a touch of modernity and minimalism, making the product stand out both in the hand and on the shelf.
This wasn’t just about styling — it was about telling a story of care, tradition, and thoughtful design through a humble product.

Final Thoughts
Soap isn’t just a bar. It’s something people hold every day, often without thinking. And when you redesign it with empathy, insight, and intention — it becomes something more.
At Design Katte, we believe even the most ordinary things deserve extraordinary attention.
