Wearable Sensor Platform – Smarter Steps Toward Joint Health

A confidential project redefining real-time rehab technology

At Design Katte, we often work at the intersection of emerging tech, healthcare, and human-centered design. One of our most challenging and rewarding projects so far involves a next-generation wearable sensor system, currently in development, focused on improving knee joint health.

While we cannot share many details publicly just yet, here’s a glimpse into how we contributed to this path-breaking project.

The Vision

The product is a wearable sensor and machine learning platform designed by a team of global experts in biomechanics. Its goal is to monitor harmful compressive forces during everyday activities and provide real-time guidance to support knee rehabilitation and overall joint wellness.

The hardware is cutting-edge and was entirely developed by our collaborators. Our role was to shape the software experience around it.

Our Contribution

We led the design and development of the web and mobile interfaces, which clinicians use to view, track, and interpret real-time motion data. This wasn’t just UI work. Since the device is still in active development, we were also involved in low-level integration and data flow optimization, working directly with the hardware team to ensure that communication between the device and app happens seamlessly.

This was especially critical because the sensor collects and transmits data with every step the user takes. Ensuring low-latency, real-time communication without draining the device’s battery became one of the key technical challenges we solved.

Designing for Clinical Use

We followed a medical product design approach throughout the interface development. The primary users are clinicians who are often pressed for time and overloaded with tasks. So we focused on minimizing cognitive load, using a clean layout, prioritized information, and intuitive navigation to keep things simple and effective.

The platform is also designed with HIPAA compliance in mind, ensuring that sensitive data is handled with the highest level of care and security.

Looking Ahead

This project remains under wraps for now, but it represents the kind of work we love doing — where hardware, software, and real-world impact come together.

We’re proud to have brought our katte philosophy into a high-stakes, healthcare-driven project. When the time is right, we’ll share more.

For now, if you’re building something bold, complex, or even confidential
